This thing called love
That makes his heartbeat
Ten times faster than normal
When she says “Hi” in the hallway.

This thing called love
That makes the pitch of her voice
Ten times higher than usual
When he asks her for a pen in class.

This thing called L-O-V-E

That makes a mother starve for days
Just to make sure her child is nourished.
That makes a father do the most strenuous jobs
Just to make sure his family can smile.

What really is this thing they call love?
Is it just the roses and chocolates on Valentine’s day?
Is it just something you say you have?
Just so no one knows how lonely you are?

Love is selflessness

She came to school without any food.
Her parents could only afford breakfast, no lunch or dinner
But her classmate offered his whole lunch so she could eat.

Love is kind

She hadn’t heard from him in a while and decided to call.
He had been depressed for weeks with no one to talk to.
He was on his way to end his life but their conversation gave him a reason to live.

Love is pure

It is showing you care unconditionally.
Checking on a sick fellow.
Believing the best of anyone without judging.
It is hearing a friend say, “I love you”
Without thinking of a romantic future.

That is the nature of the Person called Love.
