The Endless Journey

He climbed the long flight of stairs.
He had an important task to complete.
His mom was waiting.
He could not disappoint.
This had to be an interesting movie.
He had never watched it but it seemed urgent.
So It had to be worth his while.
The big door stood in front of him.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
She opened the door like she had been waiting.
She stared at him intently as he spoke.
A smile broke out on her face.
“Come in and sit, I’ll look for it”.
He sat and waited.
He waited and waited.
Time was on a Sprint race.
Mum was waiting for him.
“Don't come back until you have the movie with you”.
He had no choice but to wait.
Maybe she had forgotten.
The chair was getting uncomfortable.
His patience was running out.
Maybe bringing his presence back to her remembrance would help.
“Ma, please, ‘The Endless Journey’ movie, do you have it?”
No reply from her.
Clump! Clump! Clump!
One step after the other,
He finally heard her coming down the stairs.
She found it.
Definitely, she should have found it.
“Oh, you’re still here? I don’t have it. Ask Mr. Demi upstairs”.
His journey was far from over.
He went up, he was sent down,
He went to the supermarket,
He was sent back to the compound.
He asked in all the apartments in the building,
Then he was sent back home.
“I just left your house. I gave it to your mom”.
He was tired, drained and hungry.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“Who's there?”
“Dare”.
She opened the door and looked at her son.
He looked like sleep was just around the corner.
Generations before her had used this trick,
And It worked almost every time.
She had finished all she planned to do for the day without distractions.
“Did you find it?”
“No, Mrs. Tamilore said she gave it to you.”
“Oh Yes!”
“Alright, go and take a bath. Dinner is ready.”
