Notes on the Future
A little girl about six years old
Woke up from a dream
A dream of her life from birth to age twenty-one
She had seen her joys, her sorrows,
Her bad decisions and her mistakes,
Her successes and her failures.
In her six years on earth, she had already seen life.
She had seen the betrayals, she had seen love,
She had seen the wolves, she had seen true friends.
Overwhelmed by this new revelation,
She wrote a list of the characters she had seen.
The ones she hoped she’d see in reality.
And so she started.
A friend from childhood,
A friend who was kind,
A friend who loved her crazy,
A friend who was crazy like her,
A friend who was insecure.
A friend whose love was genuine,
A friend who never changed
Even when the seasons changed,
A friend who remained a friend
Regardless of the distance and time differences,
A friend who understood her.
A friend who always pushed her to be better,
A friend who loved Jesus like her.
A friend she was so happy around,
A friend who made her love Asia.
A friend who helped to heal her broken heart
Though he had no idea of his impact in her life.
A friend who had a creative mind like her,
A friend she cared about genuinely,
A friend whose written words inspired her.
A friend she had met to part again,
A friend with whom she could be herself.
Friends she hoped would be a friends for more than twenty years.
As she tried to finish the endless list,
She realised the importance of good associations.
It was at that moment, she decided
She wouldn’t change anything in her future.
She would live her life just as she’d seen in her dream.
With no regrets.
